I understand that during the past week the residents of the Potterne and Easterton area outside Devizes have had repeated power cuts to their electricity supply, which as you will appreciate during the recent cold weather, and with the approach of Christmas has caused some concern for customers in the area.  I am also concerned about the impact this has had on the elderly or unwell members of the community and I have asked SSE for an urgent update on the problem and the work taking place to resolve it.

They have this afternoon contacted the Devizes Constituency Office to advise that they have identified the issue to be a faulty insulator in Easterton, which has been repaired today.  They are currently carrying out a series of tests on the repair, and will continue to monitor it closely over the coming days.

In future if any resident has a power cut they can now call a Freephone number, 105, to report the power cut, and SSE will investigate the report immediately.  They have also advised that they have a database of vulnerable customers in each area, the Priority Service Register.  Anyone who fulfils the criteria for the Register can call SSE for extra support during power cuts.  SSE will be sending me full details of the Priority Service Register in the coming days, and would be grateful if we could raise awareness of the service to anyone in the local area who you feel could benefit from it.

I will, of course keep you updated with any further communications on this matter and will pass on the information on the Priority Service Register.  I do hope that this has not caused too many problems for your local residents.

NHS Patient transport survey: 16 October – 10 November 2017
Clinical Commissioning Groups across the South West are seeking views from patients on how they can provide fair access to NHS-funded non-emergency transport.
The survey is open from Monday 16 October – Friday 10 November 2017. (https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/NHS_NEPTHaveYourSay)
The aim of the survey is to help inform the development of a consistent approach to eligibility for NHS-funded patient transport. Patient... transport is a non-emergency service offered to people who cannot get to their hospital appointments because their health condition impacts on their ability to use routine transport (cars/trains/buses/taxis/wheelchair taxis).
National eligibility criteria were set in 2007, however these have been subject to variation in local interpretation, agreed exclusions and the way that eligibility is applied. The aim of the Clinical Commissioning Groups is to ensure that NHS-funded non-emergency patient transport is provided in a fair way for all those who need help getting to hospital appointments
