Potterne Parish Council – report from the Parish Clerk (published in the February Parish Magazine)

The first meeting of the new year was held on 8 January and it was good to see that our Unitary Councillor, Anna Cuthbert was once again able to attend after a few month’ absence. Also in attendance was Wiltshire Councillor Jonathan Seed who is the Portfolio Holder for Flooding.

Cllr Cuthbert reported that Wiltshire Council is looking at setting a precept that will result in 2% rise in council tax which will include a 1.99% levy for adult social care. They are holding public meetings to discuss the services that they provide and plans for future years. She also reported that the Police and Crime Commissioner is looking for an additional £1 a month (Band D property) to maintain the new officers recruited last year. In relation to money coming out from Wiltshire Council rather than going in, she encouraged any community groups needing grants to apply to the Area Board as there is money left in the budget.

Cllr Seed reported that there has been quite a bit of flooding in this part of the country and he gave information concerning the work carried out to improve flood prevention; it appears that the recent rain has caused minimal flooding, so measures taken seem to be working. The Parish Council is looking at producing a flood plan and would welcome information on those areas that are prone to flooding such as Coxhill Lane. Please contact the Clerk to let her know where the flooding occurs and the reason why e.g. blocked gullies or water draining off fields.

The Parish Council continue to pursue traffic calming measures with Wiltshire Council and hope to report more after the Community Area Transport Group  (CATG) meeting on 4 February.

Two planning applications was considered (19/11234/FUL 12 High Street and 19/11643/FUL Potterne Cricket Club) to which the council had no objections. It was noted that the application for The Old Post Office 26 High Street (19/09589/FUL and 19/09693/LBC) was approved with conditions by Wiltshire Council.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 5 February 2020, 7.30pm in Potterne Village Hall.
