Potterne Parish Council – report from the Parish Clerk (published in the January Parish Magazine)

The December meeting of the Parish Council had a fairly light agenda so there is not too much to report this month.

Firstly though, on behalf of the Parish Council, I wish you all a very Happy New Year. I can’t believe that we are in 2020 already – where did 2019 go to?

Secondly, some good news. The amount that householders contribute in their 2020/2021 council tax toward the Parish Council will be reduced for the second year running. Both the 2020/2021 budget and Precept request were approved at the meeting. The contribution for a band D household will be £43.34 which is a decreased of 0.87% on last year.

The Council considered quotes to replace the boundary fence along the Coxhill Lane side of Blounts Court field and a contractor was approved. Work on the fence should begin sometime in the New Year.

Only one planning applications was considered (19/11538/TCA) to which the council had no objections. It was noted that the application for         The Grange, 40 Whistley Road (19/09358/FUL) was approved with conditions by Wiltshire Council.

The Parish Council are looking ahead to VE Day next year which is on 8 May. A weekend of celebrations is being planned; more information will be available nearer the time.

We are still receiving complaints about the large coaches that use Whistley Road as a cut through from Devizes on their way to Salisbury and the damaged that is being caused to the verges. In order to help the Parish Council take this up with Wiltshire Council, it would be helpful to have photographs of the damage caused. Please send these through to the Clerk along with information as to approximately when the damage occurred and the address (or map co-ordinates if not at a property).

Our next meeting is on Wednesday 8 January 2020, 7.30pm in Potterne Village Hall.

Meetings of the Parish Council usually take place on the first Wednesday of the month. Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings and can speak on any of the items on the agenda during the ‘Open Session’.
